January Warrior of the Month: Claudia Norton

🌟 January Warrior of the Month: Claudia 🌟

Every month, we feature a member of our community who inspires us simply by showing up as they are. We’re excited to introduce you to this month’s Warrior, Claudia.

Our Warrior of the Month spotlight is one of our favorite ways to celebrate the people who remind us that yoga isn’t about doing it “right” — it’s about showing up, staying curious, and growing together.

This month, we’re highlighting a community member whose dedication, strength, and heart truly shine at Zen. Get to know Claudia a little better below…

How long have you been with Zen Yoga?
I’ve been coming to Zen Yoga since it opened. (January 2021)

What do you enjoy most about being part of the studio?
It’s hard to pick just one thing. The environment at the studio is so positive, and all of the instructors are inspiring, friendly, and encouraging. They truly invite you to come as you are, and I love that.

I also appreciate the variety of classes Zen offers. My husband and I take Hot Yoga with Jess. We love the combination of heat and movement, Jess’s energetic spirit, and her beautiful Sanskrit verses. I also take Gentle Yoga with Vanessa. Her grounding, mindful movements and thoughtful mantras bring so much peace to my day. There really is something for everyone, and I love being able to explore different styles and teachers.

Have you noticed any benefits from classes or events?
Absolutely. With physical challenges including scoliosis and cervical dystonia, I notice many benefits from my yoga practice. The sequences, balance work, and meditation help me feel more mentally grounded and physically stronger in my everyday life.

I enjoy the benefits so much that I want to share yoga with others. I’m incredibly grateful that Zen is offering a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training beginning in January 2026. I signed up and am excited to learn alongside such amazing instructors.

Favorite pose or movement, and why?
Cobbler Pose (Baddha Konasana). I love creating the butterfly shape with the soles of my feet. My hips tend to be tight from running, and this pose gives them a deep, much-needed stretch. I also love that it allows me to massage my feet at the same time.

Any advice for someone just starting out?
The Zen community is welcoming, comfortable, and encouraging. There is no judgment. Show up consistently and allow your body to do what feels best for you. Not every practice will feel the same, and that’s okay. You do you. Your body and mind will benefit in so many ways.

We’re deeply grateful for the energy Claudia brings into our space — her presence, encouragement, and kindness make a difference for everyone around her. Practicing alongside her is a joy, and we’re honored to celebrate her as this month’s Warrior. We’re also thrilled that she’ll be joining our upcoming 200HR Yoga Teacher Training — we can’t wait to watch her continue to grow on and off the mat.
