February Warrior of the Month: Shelby
๐ Meet Shelby ๐
Each month, we highlight a member of our Zen community who inspires us simply by showing up โ honestly, consistently, and exactly as they are. This month, weโre honored to celebrate Shelby, our February Warrior.
The Warrior of the Month spotlight is one of our favorite ways to recognize the people who remind us that yoga isnโt about doing it perfectly. Itโs about showing up, staying open, and growing over time โ both on and off the mat.
Get to know Shelby a little better below.
How long have you been coming to Zen?
I have been practicing yoga at Zen for two years. On Saturday, January 3rd, I attended my 500th class!
What do you enjoy most about being part of the studio?
From the moment that I first walked into the Westminster studio, I felt like this was where I needed to be. The friends that I have made attending classes are amazing! I look forward to seeing them at classes, and they motivate me to show up and be my best.
The instructors are just as amazing! They have encouraged me to try new classes that I probably would not have signed up for on my own, such as hot sculpt. I love all of the classes at Zen โ vinyasa, barre, sculpt, pilates, nidra, hot yoga. All the different classes have helped me to craft a well-rounded, emotional and physical wellness routine.
Have you noticed any benefits from classes, events, or training?
I have noticed so many amazing benefits from attending classes at Zen. The most important benefits are that I have more energy, less stress, and I feel good about myself. I have also become more confident in my practice, which helped me to take the step into Yoga Teacher Training, which I am currently enrolled in now. I want to be able to share yoga and its many benefits with others.
Favorite pose or movement, and why?
My favorite poses are Warrior 1, 2, and 3. These poses have helped me to build strength and improve my balance. They each use different muscles and parts of the body, and I like when I get to combine all 3 during my practice.
Any advice youโd give someone just starting out?
Just get started! I was nervous at first about starting yoga at 48 years old, but I took that first step to walk into the studio, and I am forever grateful that I did!
Shelbyโs dedication, warmth, and steady presence are felt throughout the studio. From exploring new classes to stepping into Yoga Teacher Training, her journey reflects the heart of what Zen is all about. Thank you for being YOU, Shelby!
